Early gingivitis is characterized by gums that bleed on brushing, which progresses to later stages when the gums appear red, swollen, tender on touch, and spontaneously bleed.
\nIf left unchecked, gingivitis progresses to periodontitis which is characterized by receding gums, loose teeth and destruction of the surrounding bone below the gum line. Sometimes, you may experience foul smell and taste, as well as pus in your gums.
\nOur gums attach to the teeth a little below the visible gum line. The area between the gums and teeth, just below the visible gum line is called the sulcus. Gum disease begins when plaque (a thin biofilm formed on the tooth surfaces) and bacteria accumulate in the sulcus of teeth. If proper oral hygiene is not maintained and brushing does not reach the sulcus area, plaque keeps on accumulating and eventually turns into a hard substance called calculus which is very difficult to remove. Calculus contains food debris and bacteria that damage the gums and underlying bone, promoting the progression of the gum infection.” font_size=”lg:18″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][tm_spacer size=”lg:50″][tm_image border_color=”primary” image=”2637″ lg_spacing=”margin_bottom:20;border_top:4;border_right:4;border_bottom:4;border_left:4″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][tm_image image_size=”custom” align=”center” image=”2967″ image_size_height=”128″ image_size_width=”160″][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][tm_image image_size=”custom” align=”center” image=”2838″ image_size_width=”150″][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content_no_spaces”][vc_column offset=”vc_col-lg-4″][tm_box_icon style=”4″ icon_type=”fontawesome5″ icon_fontawesome5=”fa fa-award” overlay_background=”primary” overlay_opacity=”100″ heading=”Award Winning Clinic” text=”Susan Crean Dental & Facial Aesthetics is proud to have won and to have been nominated for various awards” box_shadow=”0 20px 30px #ccc” lg_spacing=”margin_bottom:0″][\/vc_column][vc_column offset=”vc_col-lg-4″][tm_box_icon style=”4″ icon_type=”fontawesome5″ icon_fontawesome5=”far fa-handshake” overlay_background=”primary” overlay_opacity=”100″ heading=”Safe, Relaxing Atmosphere” text=”We are experts dealing with nervous patients, there is no need to fear the dentist anymore” box_shadow=”0 20px 30px #ccc” lg_spacing=”margin_bottom:0″][\/vc_column][vc_column offset=”vc_col-lg-4″][tm_box_icon style=”4″ icon_type=”fontawesome5″ icon_fontawesome5=”fal fa-smile-beam” overlay_background=”primary” overlay_opacity=”100″ heading=”Aesthetic Experts” text=”We can help you achieve the smile that you always dreamed of, contact us today” box_shadow=”0 20px 30px #ccc” lg_spacing=”margin_bottom:0″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” background_color=”primary” lg_spacing=”padding_top:100;padding_bottom:100″][vc_column][vc_row_inner gutter=”xs:30;sm:50;md:80;lg:100″ xs_spacing=”padding_top:30;padding_bottom:30″][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][tm_image border_color=”primary” image=”2700″ lg_spacing=”border_top:4;border_right:4;border_bottom:4;border_left:4″][tm_heading custom_google_font=”” text_color=”secondary” text=”Am I suitable to get Periodontal treatment?” font_size=”lg:36″ line_height=”46px”][tm_spacer size=”lg:30″][tm_heading tag=”div” custom_google_font=”” text_color=”secondary” text=”If you are somebody who has bleeding and swollen gums, receding gum line, loose teeth or severe pain on biting, it\u2019s best you get yourself checked out for gum disease. \nIf your gum disease has progressed to such a stage that your teeth are moving or your gums have receded to expose your tooth roots, flap surgery can help lift back your gum line.
